Project Z.O.N.E. Survey Volunteer
Zeroing Out the Non-Engaged

Our friends at the Human Services Campus need your help in conducting a "street survey" in the neighborhood surrounding the Campus in the evening of Tuesday, March 5, 2013.  We are helping them recruit volunteers to survey folks living on the streets in the area between 19th Avenue to the west, 7th Avenue to the east, Harrison Avenue to the south, and Van Buren to the north.

The intent of this survey is to identify who is sleeping on the streets in that neighborhood and get a better understanding of the needs of the folks on the streets and engage them into services geared to end their homelessness.

We need dedicated volunteers to commit to an evening of training and surveying using the health assessment survey, other-wise known as the Vulnerability Index.  The mandatory training will be held at the Lodestar Day Resource Center, Classroom C at 7:30pm (light refreshments will be served).  Surveying efforts will begin at 9pm and run till midnight that night.  That specific time period will allow us to better understand why folks aren't engaged in the nearby shelters.

• All survey volunteers must be 18 years or older

• All survey volunteers must participate in an hour and 1/2 training session related to interviewing individuals and completing the survey forms.  The training will be held immediately before the surveying efforts at 7:30pm at the Lodestar Day Resource Center. You will be paired up with outreach professional and given your assigned area at that training.  Even if you have previously participated in administering the VI, you must be present at this training to understand the adapted questions for this project.

• Volunteers will be working in teams of no less than four, and an outreach professional will be the team leader.  While conducting the survey, there will be extra Phoenix Police presence.

• In addition to surveying, team members will offer a $5 McDonalds gift cards to all individuals that agree to participate in the survey.
When surveying is completed, the results will be used to educate and strategize with nearby providers in serving those living outside their buildings.  The results will also be used in outreach and service education efforts.  Finally, the data will be analyzed to determine each individual’s level of vulnerability or risk of premature death if not for proper intervention (called the Vulnerability Index), allowing us to prioritize resources and services to those most in need.

Project Z.O.N.E. Data Entry Volunteers
Data entry volunteers are also needed to input the data collected. There are two data entry time slots (March 6th from 4pm to 7pm and March 7th from 4pm to 7pm) and volunteers are encouraged to sign up for one or both days.  Onsite training will be available on how to complete the data entry.
